Otto & Victoria, Time Traveling in Style…
One of the challenges of being based in the Great White North is that ordering things from south of the border can be disproportionately expensive… so it was that we here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library didn’t get our hands on this acquisition until just this past week.
But my goodness was it worth it.
Introducing Brian Kesinger’s Time Traveling With Your Octopus…
Small Press Saturday: Lanternfish Press
We have endured another week of drought and smoke, and this week I’ve been in the mood for more eclectic and weird reading fare.
I was scrolling through Twitter last week and came across a tweet with a photo of a horror book display in a book shop. Being a book nerd, I had to zoom in and take a closer look at the books displayed. One book in the corner caught my eye. It was The Night Library of Sternendach by Jessica Levai.
Happy Towel Day!
One of the earliest books we bonded over here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library was Douglas Adams’ profoundly comic and comically profound trilogy in (at least) four parts, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and we have definitely known where our towels are ever since.
Small Press Saturday: JournalStone
Today we are heading south of the Canadian border so I can introduce you to JournalStone Publishing, founded in 2009 by Christopher C. Payne and based in Carbondale, Illinois. They are definitely a small press that embraces the dark and weird, specializing in horror, sci-fi, fantasy, thriller, and generally dark fiction.
An “I Read Canadian Day” addendum
An amazing and accidental last minute addition to my “I Read Canadian” pile! The Barnabas Project by Terry, Eric, and Devin Fan — The Fan Brothers — edited by Tara Walker, designed by Kelly Hill, and published by Tundra Books.
Happy Birthday to “The Man who Invented the Future”
Born on this day in 1828, Jules Gabriel Verne is considered by many to be one of the parents of modern day science fiction literature.
Small Press Saturday: The Seventh Terrace
A perfect day to go really small for Small Press Saturday – like micropress small. Meet The Seventh Terrace, a micropress based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, owned and operated by Sarah L. Johnson and Robert Bose, fixtures and disruptors of the Calgary literary scene.
