Book of the Week: Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree
This week’s Book of the Week has already gotten a bit of coverage, but I decided I wanted to make it my pick anyways. In the spirit of romance and friendship for V/Palentine’s Week – and because it features a bookstore!…
Meet Mika Burns!
Welcome to our latest BALLER Profile! Every Wednesday you can look forward to reading interviews with authors, publishing professionals, library people, readers, and more. This week it is my pleasure to introduce you to Mika Burns!
A Faustian bargain… but the good kind
Reading The Picture of Dorian Gray in my teen years was a gateway drug to reading other classics and it made sense that Faust by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe quickly appeared on my radar. I mean, a book about selling your soul to the devil in return for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures – how can you resist?…
You sold a book…
Finally, time for some summer reading…
Yeah, it’s been a hot minute, but between work and school and life we here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library may have gotten a bit sidetracked from our (ir)regularly scheduled additions to our digital stacks.
But we have not forgotten you, beloved patrons!
It had a blue cover…
A quick post about a recent acquisition that will in particular tickle the funny bone of librarians and booksellers… A Library of Misremembered Books by artist Marina Luz…
I have a problem…
A couple of days ago, one of my favourite (and Edmonton’s oldest) indie bookstores – Audreys Books – finally reopened for in-person browsing, after over a year of online shopping and curbside pickup. Canadian Independent Bookstore Day 2021
We interrupt our regularly scheduled Small Press Saturday series this weekend to gush about Canadian Independent Bookstore Day! Initiated by the Canadian Independent Booksellers Association, Canadian Independent Bookstore Day is an annual celebration to promote independent bookstores.
Shop Local
While we here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library are always happy when people get books into their hands, we’re especially delighted if it happens by way of an independent bookseller. As part of supporting such efforts, we have begun adding connections to the Shop Local initiative of Bookmanager, a Canadian company that provides bookstore management software to many independent booksellers in Canada and the US.
Happy I Read Canadian Day 2021!
Today is a day of celebration across our country, a celebration of Canadian books for young people. People across the nation are being challenged to Read Canadian for 15 minutes and to share their experience. We are celebrating by sharing a small photo gallery of some our personal copies of Canadian books for young readers, and a video from Marty Chan!
