A Happy Butterflies & Aliens Halloween!

Nope, no way we could let our very first Butterflies & Aliens Halloween go by without posting something! Not when there are so many Halloween-themed books over which our Head Alien and Butterfly-in-Chief bonded…

And by “Halloween-themed,” what we really mean are “monster” books: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the Ultimate anthology series.

Mind you, Halloween-themed also means anything that has inspired a costume for us, whether at Halloween or not, so Halloween-themed also means The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch, Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, hard-boiled detective novels, all the things steampunk.

So many books, so little time. We will have to come back to all those books to give them the attention they deserve.

For now, we’re just going to share a couple of quick pics from a couple of favourites of ours: B is for Boo: A Halloween Alphabet by Greg Paprocki and Sipping Spiders Through A Straw: Campfire Songs for Monsters, lyrics by Kelly DiPucchio and pictures by Gris Grimly.

Hope they put you in the spirit of the season until we can do a deeper dive into some of our favourite monster books!

Happy Halloweening!

A sampling of the musical genius that is Sipping Spiders Through A Straw: Campfire Songs for Monsters.

A very literary letter R from B is for Boo: A Halloween Alphabet.
