The Library & Information Studies Students Association

PLO 10: Professional Engagement

Students will be ready to play an active role in associations and engage in other professional activities, as well as understand the importance of cooperation among librarians and information professionals and their agencies.

During my time as a student, I became heavily involved in the Library and Information Studies Students Association, or LISSA, serving on their executive and various sub-committees throughout my time as a student.

This included serving as a representative for part-time on-campus students, representing LISSA on various School of Library & Information Studies boards and committees, and serving on LISSA EDI and orientation committees, as well as a variety of less formal roles.

I share as an artifact for this involvement this photo of a minifridge that I was able to acquire for the LISSA office, a symbol of the many ways, big and small, yet no less impactful, in which we can contribute to our colleagues, community, and profession.
