Small Press Saturday: Touchwood Editions

Cover for Always Brave, Sometimes Kind by Katie Bickell.

Happy Saturday!

I don’t know about you, but this past week of unprecedented heat has sucked the life out of me. The tragedy of the fires in B.C. and the destruction of the town of Lytton is completely depressing. So, I decided to showcase a B.C. publisher today. Allow me to introduce you to Touchwood Editions.

Touchwood Editions, based in Victoria, British Columbia, and their imprint Brindle & Glass, publishes around 20 books per year. They produce a variety of books including food and wine, regional history, art and photography, gardening and pets, house and home, and quality literary fiction titles. The bulk of their titles have regional appeal to the western provinces and northern territories.

High on my wishlist right now is Always Brave, Sometimes Kind by Katie Bickell. This novel won the 2021 Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction at the Alberta Literary Awards and is a series of character-driven interconnected stories that explores contemporary life in Alberta. It sounds fabulous and I love celebrating Alberta authors as much as I can.

The Lane Winslow mystery series has also been on my radar for quite a while, as it is a staple on the shelves at Owl’s Nest Books and I have heard readers compare it to the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspeare – so high praise that has piqued my interest. And A Match Made for Murder by Iona Whishaw won the 2021 Bony Blithe/Bloody Words Light Mystery Award.

So, as you recover from the heatwave, consider checking out Touchwood Editions for your next great read.

Happy Reading!
