Small Press Saturday: Stonehouse Publishing

Covers for The Poor Clare by Elizabeth Gaskell and All the Night Gone by Sabrina Uswak, from Stonehouse Publishing.

Happy Saturday! Or Sunday! Whatever – it’s been a week and things got turned around a bit due to When Words Collide obligations but we are still calling this post Small Press Saturday even if it is Sunday. Embrace the chaos!

This week we are bringing things back to Alberta to introduce you to Stonehouse Publishing. This small press was founded in 2014 and is run by a team of women, led by publisher Netta Johnson. They focus on Canadian authors and publish four to six titles per year. They primarily publish literary fiction with commercial appeal but also publish some thrillers, mysteries, historical fiction, and some humour.

It is interesting to note that Stonehouse has three imprints – their “Originals” imprint which is Canadian literature, their “Classics” line which aims to introduce you to classic novels, and their “Gothic” imprint which focuses on classic and modern gothic titles.

One thing I love about Stonehouse is their easily identifiable covers – you can always tell when you are looking at a Stonehouse title and I enjoy clean modern images on their covers. One of my personal faves is the cover for Humane by Anna Marie Sewell. The book also sounds awesome and is on my list to read. Another eyecatcher is the cover for Rough by Robin Van Eck, also on my list to be read.

Another thing I love is that they have a special on their website to encourage summer reading – pick any two books from the list for $35.00 and get a free tote too!

So, while there is some summer to take advantage of, go check out the Stonehouse website and take advantage of the summer reading special.

Happy Reading!!

– Stacey
