Something awoke in the garden…
In honour of this fine Friday the 13th, thought I’d take the opportunity to make a proper post about a highlight discovery of this past summer, Demon Potatoes by L. A. Cunningham… a mini-comic, and possible curse, acquired during the 2024 When Words Collide festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada…
And YES IT CAME WITH ACTUAL POTATOES!
Oh, and also stickers. BUT ALSO POTATOES!
Potatoes that are now in my home…
Both the potatoes and the comic… which is hilarious and awesome… now reside in the Memento Mori collection at the Butterflies & Aliens Library North, where we have also begun to track the #JourneyToDecay on social media and now here in the stacks. We will be adding additional images as we track the progression through time of these #DemonPotatoes so do check back on this post.

Update | June 5, 2025 — After the Demon/Cat incident of New Years’ Eve (see images below), the Demon Potatoes were moved to safer location, which unintentionally meant out of sight and out of mind! Now after five months, we have an update photo and it appears the immortality spell of the Demon Potatoes was in fact dispelled by the Attack of the Interloper. Time now marks its passing…
