Embracing the Prairie Witch

Book mail is one of our highlights here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library, but today’s package is especially exciting, an anthology edited by our very own Stacey Kondla, Prairie Witch published by Prairie Soul Press.

Cover of Prairie Witch, edited by Stacey Kondla.

Featuring 13 stories that seek to reclaim the word “witch” and explore not only what it means to be a witch on the prairies but a woman in the world, Prairie Witch delivers horror and grit and tragedy and joy. As an added bonus, it includes a short insight from each author as to their motivation in writing their stories, as well as a powerful introduction by the editor about the book, its stories, and its importance in our current world.

And Prairie Witch is actually the second book in a growing series, a followup to Prairie Gothic, published back in 2020. Both edited by our Butterfly-in-Chief, they are well worth a slow read in the dark.

So if you’re a fan of the horror and thriller genres, a supporter of small presses and CanLit, or just someone who loves great writing and great stories, here are a couple of books for you to add the wishlist at your favourite indie bookstore.

Happy Reading!
