Small Press Saturday: Biblioasis

Cover of A Ghost in the Throat by Doireann Ni Ghriofa.

Happy Saturday (Sunday, whatever)!

I’ve enjoyed a couple weeks off work and time ceased to have meaning, so I completely forgot about pulling together the Small Press Saturday post, so better late than never – I am pleased to introduce you to Biblioasis!

Based in Windsor, Ontario, Biblioasis is a small press and book shop. They publish sixteen to twenty books per year. They don’t have hard and fast rules about the books they publish but they do lean heavy on literary and have a stellar translation program. They also publish short fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

The Biblioasis website is also a rabbit hole you can get lost in. They have an excellent Latest News tab that features interviews with many of their authors and showcases featured book reviews of their titles. You won’t regret spending some time there.

I also love that Biblioasis offers subscription packages. It’s an amazing deal that with their 2021 Fiction package you can get five of their new release titles for $100 including shipping. You can choose your five titles from their selected list or you can opt to be “surprised”! I am all about surprises!! They have other awesome packages too so it worth checking out their subscription page.

I have two of their recent nonfiction releases on my to-be-read list at the moment. The first is They Call Me George by Cecil Foster and the second is Bushrunner by Mark Bourrie. Learning more about Canada’s lesser known history is a priority for me.

So, if you have never heard of Biblioasis before, you might want to check them out and stock up on some Fall and Winter reading before the weather starts to turn.

Happy Reading!

– Stacey
