The Serendipity Project
PLO 9: Information Technologies
Students will understand current information technology as an integral part of the operations and services of libraries and information agencies.
The Serendipity Project comes out of my one out-of-department course, cross listed as GSJ 525 / DH 530 Data, Power, Feminism.
And as a Gender and Social Justice / Digital Humanities offering, this course not only provided an introduction to how information systems can have major impacts in how we do our jobs, the specific study of the HuNI platform – the Humanities Networks Infrastructure research and discovery platform – challenged many basic paradigms of librarianship in its approach to information handling. Like LIS 598 Indigenous Contexts, GSJ 525 / DH 530 proved to be a powerful course for challenging my ingrained thinking.
