PLO 6: Production of Knowledge

Students will be able to analyze and synthesize the concepts of knowledge, information, and communication; and to critically examine, assess, and make recommendations as to how these concepts and principles are applied in various information environments, including the web.

As part of LIS 531 Collection Management, we had the opportunity to contribute a chapter to a new Open Educational Resource, or OER, a very tangible example of the production of knowledge.

In co-authoring the opening chapter of Contemporary Issues in Collections Management with my classmate Julia Sieben, I helped tackle the question of “Physical or Digital: The Fundamental Challenge of Modern Collection Development” as an introduction to the textbook as a whole.
