One of our favourite things about December here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library is a tradition that began back in 2015 with the publication of the very first Short Story Advent Calendar by Edmonton publishers Hingston & Olsen – a daily December dose of bookish goodness to get us into the holiday spirit!

We’ve featured them before in a post for #SmallPressSaturday, and this year they’ve released not only another edition – despite an earlier announcement that the 2020 edition would be the last – but they’ve also released a second one just for kids!

And by “kids” I am certain they mean “…in spirit and attitude.”

So without further ado, the 2021 Hingston & Olsen Short Story Advent Calendars, accompanied by the also traditional Star Wars LEGO advent calendar. Because Star Wars. And LEGO.

For the next 25 days, the Butterflies & Aliens Library will be doing a daily post as we reveal what lies behind each numbered cover and door. We’d love for you to join us in the fun, and perhaps play along in a game of “write a synopsis of the story based only on the title” – more on that coming in our first post!

And a heads up that, once we’ve cracked open the final seals, we have a new Butterflies & Aliens tradition that we will be launching, so stay tuned!
