Happy World Toilet Day!

There’s a reason why toilet humour is called toilet humour, but humour can often be a way to convey important messages. So in honour of World Toilet Day, established and recognized by the United Nations to “tackle the global sanitation crisis and achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030” – but, yeah, I snickered at the name regardless – we wanted to share a book that seeks to deliver some important health information, with humour, on a very closely related topic…

The very brown cover of What’s Your Poo Telling You?

First published in 2007, What’s Your Poo Telling You? was written by Josh Richman and Dr. Anish Sheth, illustrated by Peter Arkle, and designed by Jacob T. Gardner. It was followed in 2009 by a sequel, What's My Pee Telling Me?, which is high on our wishlist, for anyone taking notes for the holiday gift-giving season.

The writing is hilarious, the illustrations are hilarious, and the medical information is solid. So to speak.

And it includes this particular entry that is very on topic for the day, a correction on who should get credit for inventing the first flush toilet, at least in the European world.

The very important entry on “The Crapper” in What’s Your Poo Telling You?

So even as you giggle away about “Floaters vs. Sinkers”, “The Green Goblin”, and the dreaded “Ring of Fire”, you’ll also be absorbing important health information as well as a wealth of trivia to share at parties.

I shall close today’s post with a phrase I never thought I’d write in public…

Happy Pooping!

– Winston
